Satan has many tools to use against us. One of his greatest is discouragement. Now, he can cause discouragement through so many other mediums, most of the sin, but a lot more of them, just by getting us distracted and keeping us distracted. One of his best is to get us busy!
Corrie ten Boom once said that if the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy. That sounds pretty right to me. We have gotten so busy with life that we can’t find time for God. When people ask me about how to get their life in order, or how to overcome a sin, I always suggest that they need to start by getting into the Word of God. Then I suggest that they start their day out by getting up 15 minutes earlier and getting into the word for 15 minutes. Then they look at me like I’ve just spoken in an unknown language to them. Or perhaps I suggest that they steal away from their desk at sometime during the day or on a break to read the bible alone and you’d think that I’d suggested that they just go ahead and quit their job right there on the spot.
I truly believe that in today’s world, if we are going to get back on the right track of living the life that Jesus has called us to come and live. We are going to have to slow down and get close to him. The only way to get close to him is to start with reading his word and talking to him in prayer.
Being busy, too busy and sin do the same thing to us: they cut us off from our connection to God. So, how about right now, today you find that 15 minutes to simply stop, slow down and set with God and enjoy his presence. Let’s start with that simple action today. Slow down, get quiet, open God’s word for one chapter and pray. Then listen for God. It will begin you on a road of mental and spiritual health that may just save your life on this earth.
