When we are feeling down and out, when we just can’t seem to break the hold that Satan and his demons seem to have on our minds, the best and surest way that we can break that hold is to go and serve somebody. That’s why I’ve been asking you to do a random act of service this week. It will open your mind to see God at work and clear your mind of the thoughts of ourselves. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking of only ourselves.
Remember that we face 3 enemies in this world. (I mention this fact often in sermons, especially in the past year, because I feel that our minds and hearts were truly put through the ringer and our mental and spiritual health have suffered greatly because of it.) First it is obvious, and he doesn’t hide it very well most of the time, but our first enemy is Satan. Now, please, although he is our great enemy, don’t give him so much attention that we lose focus on where our minds and hearts should be, “Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” Col. 3:3. We need to be paying attention, but not all the things that are going on in my life have to do with Satan’s attack, sometimes it’s because I have just made some dumb decisions.
Secondly there is the world. You know that you can’t help but take a stroll down your news feed and see all the temptations that the world is throwing into your minds and hearts. Be careful, the world is a lie also. What it looks like so often in your feed isn’t true.
And last of all, there is our own flesh. Our flesh is rebellious to the ways of God. We often just think that it’s that we are so disobedient or so terrible of people. That’s not true. If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, you have been given the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Think about that today. You have the righteousness of Jesus Christ, but of course your flesh doesn’t like that and Satan will use words in your past to make you believe that you aren’t good enough to be loved, you just can’t get it right, you are stupid and many other things that have been said about us in our past.
But rise above that and today, fix your focus on Jesus and go serve somebody. I guarantee you’ll feel better immediately! SERVE SOMEBODY!
