We need to be on full guard against Satan and his attacks. Paul wrote Timothy (Timothy had must have mentioned someway to Paul that he was just having a hard time against temptations) and told him in 2 Tim. 2:22 to run from temptation, and evil thoughts.
I like the last part of the verse in the Living Bible: “stay close to anything that makes you want to do right.” There’s the secret, the key to overcoming temptations. Get close to anything that MAKES YOU DO RIGHT!
Get your focus on something else. Most of our temptations start in our mind. We mull over and over a sin until we can’t take it anymore and we give in. Having a temptation enter our mind isn’t always an easy thing to do, just having the temptation in our mind isn’t the sin. The sin comes when we put it into action and to stop that from happening, we need to stop and refocus our minds.
The battle over sin is either won or lost in our minds first. So, let’s pray that today we can have the discipline and strength to run to God and get close to anything that will give us strength and hope to overcome.
