This Is Not My Home!

One of the issues that Satan has used against us to make us live in anxiety and without joy is that he has tricked us into living like this is it! Like this is all that matters and what we get here is it. Well, if this is it – we are all, even the richest are to be pitied. Being a pastor, I do quite a few funerals. And I can’t help but share one great truth from God that is so important for all of us to remember as we spend our time on this earth. David prayed to God in Ps. 39:4, these words: “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is.” David knew what the secret to life was, but he knew he would forget about it all the time as he lived as King, Warrior, and Leader of men. He would get so wrapped up in what was going on around him that he would forget that his days are numbered, so take advantage of those days, each, and everyone of them to live for God. So, to experience joy and what God has purposed for your life here, you need to remember: compared to eternity, this life is just a dot! (A friend of mine once did an entire sermon at CIY on the dot of our lives.) Secondly, this earth is not our home, it’s a temporary residence. We aren’t going to be here that long, so don’t get attached to it. Now, I’m not saying I have this down, I struggle with it too, but I have to discipline myself to stop my thinking and put my focus back on what I’m here for and that I’m here for just a while and my greatest purpose is to live to give God glory no matter what is going on here. This world is not my home, so how should that one, simple fact change how I live out today? Let’s pray for wisdom on how to truly live, not for this place, but for the place that Jesus has gone to prepare for us.
