Is This Where I Stop?

Dan Sullivan is the cofounder of Strategic Coach, a coaching company for entrepreneurs. But his dream of the company might not of ever happened if he had not gone on an Outward Bound expedition right after high school. Let me stop right here and encourage us to not give up or give into our emotions to quit. God has called you to a specific purpose with your life. You spend time dreaming about it, planning on how to make that purpose come to life and some of you reading with me this morning has been knocked down so many times that you have given up, not just one, but multiple times, and you have just decided it’s not worth it. But I’m here to tell you that with God’s power, you can get back up and get back into the fight of living out the passion and purpose that God has for you. As for Dan, on this trip, he found himself on a grueling hike through treacherous terrain. At one point Dan took off his backpack and sat down. That was it, he thought, I’m done, I QUIT! (Have you been right there? The situations in your life are just too great for you to go on, or at least that’s what you were or are thinking today.) One of the guides on the trip with him, came up to him and asked him one simple question that changed the direction of his life forever. His simple question was: “Is this where you stop?” He waited and Dan just peered at him with a dumbfounded look on his face. The guide re-asked the question: “Everybody stops somewhere. Is this where you stop?” Dan was spent, tired and exhausted beyond what he had ever felt before, but he asked himself that question: “Dan, is there where you stop? Is there where the dreams end? Is this the place that you dig deeper and get back in the fight?” I have a quote in my journal that I read quite often: “Life is like a boxing match. Defeat is declared not when you fall down, but when you refuse to get back up.” God isn’t done with you yet! He has a plan for you, whether you are 85 or 15, God has a plan. Don’t forget that and don’t forget that to ask yourself every time you feel like quitting: “Is there where I stop?”
