Overcoming Obstacles

This past Sunday at C3 (you can watch the video on YouTube, Carterville Christian Church) we talked about great comebacks. The raising of Lazarus was one of the greatest comebacks in the bible, well of the entire human race. Jesus raised a man up from the dead that had been dead four days. Obstacles in our lives give us opportunities to make comebacks by God’s amazing power. When we became a child of God, God filled us with his spirit, the Holy Spirit and placed within our bodies the power, all the ingredients for comebacks. But sometimes we let the obstacles become bigger than what we think the power of God is in our lives. We start listening to the lies of Satan and we find ourselves defeated and stuck in a sin, an addiction, with a mindset that tells us we can’t do it, we aren’t good enough, God would never forgive someone like me or if he forgives me, he certainly wouldn’t use someone like me. We let a sin, a drug addiction, pornography, divorce, failure in school or in business, time in jail, etc. keep up bound up in the mindset that we aren’t good enough. And you know what? You are right, we are not good enough. But God is! Let me repeat that and even yell it out: GOD IS GOOD ENOUGH! God sent Jesus to take your addictions, sins, mistakes, your past and nail it to the cross and give you a Spirit of the Overcomer! So, what is holding you back? Maybe it wasn’t one of the issues I listed, but something is holding you back. Can I get real honest now? Maybe it is laziness, irresponsibility, constant worry or just trying to please people and you don’t have the discipline to let God get you up and out from underneath those problems to become an Overcomer with Him. It’s time to realize that it doesn’t have to be some big sin that holds us back, it could just be that I’m afraid to step out on my own. I’m afraid to step out into the water, walk away from my homeland, pick up that staff, take up that cross, whatever it is, it’s time to step out and over the obstacle so that God can use you and your story to become an Overcomer. Pray for God to use you today to defeat the lies of Satan and you become what he created you for, when you gave your life to Him. A powerful child of God, filled with His Spirit that can overcome anything that Satan and this world brings at us. Pick up your head, and let’s get to work. God has a plan and a purpose for you. It’s time to pray, get up off your knees and get on with that purpose.
