No Tolerance

“Do not deviate from them (all the instructions Moses gave you), turning to either to the right or to the left.” Josh. 1:7. Sounds like God expected them to obey, something that today we might call “zero tolerance.” When the Israelites entered the Promised Land, they were to obey God and God only. God knew that they would be easily persuaded by the evil practices by the evil people that already inhabited this land. So, he has set up laws from them to obey. We live in an evil world, and too often we all are very vulnerable to what is going on around us. They weren’t to compromise morality or principles to conform to the practices of the people in the land. “Zero tolerance!” Israel and God had made a promise, a covenant to each other, to follow the law and for God to protect them and give them the Promised Land. God’s law hasn’t changed today. He has shown us how to live in this world with the example and teaching of Jesus Christ. Nothing important has changed and God is still calling us to come, deny ourselves, pick up our cross and follow Him. Today, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to guide us and give us the confidence to say no to the evil of this world and shine the light of grace and his love.
