As the disciples and the apostle Paul faced storms (Mk. 4 & Acts 27) both had a net with them: Jesus Christ. While the disciples just couldn’t see how Jesus help them, (I’m pretty sure they thought he was going to get up from his exhaustion and start helping the bail out water) Paul had a vision of an angel promising safe passage even though there would be a shipwreck. They both had the savior right there with them. And the Apostle knew that his net would save them, the disciples had to experience it and have their faith questioned. Do you have that “net” in your life today? Are you going to live today with the assurance that no matter what you are facing that Jesus Christ is with you? It makes a difference in how we live, how we love, how we meet people and how we set out to live in new and exciting ways. Juan Carlos Ortiz, shared once of a discussion that he had with a world renown trapeze artist about the security of the net. The performer said, “Yes, the net does the obvious—it keeps performers from being injured should they fall. But it does much more than that. Imagine there is no net, we would be so nervous that we would be more likely to miss and fall. If there was no net, we would not dare to do some of the things we do. But because there’s a net, we dare to make two turns, and once I made three turns—thanks to the net! Ortiz saw an application for all Christians: We have security in God. When we are sure in His arms, we dare to attempt big things for God. We dare to be holy. We dare to be obedient. We dare, because we know the eternal arms of God will hold us if we fall. God is with us! Isn’t it time to live like he’s right there in our boat, even when we can’t see him working? Don’t let his silence, make you conclude that he doesn’t care! He is right there with us.
