Jesus left us with a very important story/parable in Matt. 7:25-27, that we have made into a children’s song and maybe because of that it has lost it power to really confront us as adults. Jesus compares two builders; one digs down deep to find bedrock and build his house on it. The other man builds his house without digging down deep to find bedrock and Jesus even describes his foundation being built on sand. These houses must have been in the vicinity because it sounds like Jesus is describing the same storm that hits the houses and the same flood waters that rises up against them. The house of the rock stand firm, but the house built on the sand can’t stand the winds and the waves and collapses under the storm. Jesus says that this is the comparison of the person who obeys Jesus’ words and does what he asks us to do. The other man, doesn’t obey, he sees things his way and basically disobeys Jesus and his will. Collapse of life is a very hard thing to experience, but it doesn’t have to be that way. No, we can face the storms of life, but we have to build our lives upon the true rock of Jesus Christ. David shares in Ps. 7, that he is going through some storms of life. (If you want to see a man that experienced plenty of storms in life, you should read through the life of David in 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 Kings. The man faced a ton of storms, some because of his enemies and his faith in God and some because of his own demise, but David had a rock. And he shares that in Ps.7:10, “God is my shield…” and vs. 17, “…I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.” David knew who God was and, in his storms, he was going to praise him. There is always going to be a storm to withstand, the question is today: Is your life being build upon the rock of Jesus Christ? Going to church isn’t enough, it’s a part of the building process. We must today strive to obey the words and will of Jesus for our lives. Pray today that you/we can withstand the storm that we are in or that is coming, because we have placed our faith in our rock: Jesus Christ.
