Let’s Go Fishing!

You’ve heard the expression: “Like shooting fish in a barrel” right? It means that something is so easy that you don’t even have to try, like have a barrel full of fish and dropping your lure in there to catch one. Well, God has stocked the barrel of your life with fish that are waiting for you to come and go fishing. When two of our boys were real little, I had to be in CO for a week of leading teens in a conference. So, their mom brought them with us. I knew that there was a fresh water pond there full of trout, just waiting to be caught. So, I took a couple of our rods and reels so we could take them fishing one afternoon of free time. We got to the pond, I paid our money to fish and we set out on a great afternoon of “slaying” some trout! These two began to think that I was the smartest dad in the world and that they were quickly becoming the greatest fisherman in the world. But dad knew something that they didn’t know. I had all ready checked and on that particular day, the pond had be restocked with a new batch of fish just waiting to be caught. It was like “shooting fish in a barrel.” Well, I haven’t told them yet to this day and that was many, many years ago. I think they decided long ago without telling them that I wasn’t the smartest dad in the world, but they still think that they are the greatest fisherman in the world. The moral: God has called us all to be fishers of men! And here’s the good news: our Father is the smartest Father in the world and when we humble ourselves before him like my boys and ask for help, He will lead us to places where the people are ready to have someone share the Good News of Jesus and low and behold – it’s like “shooting fish in a barrel!” God is preparing people right now for you to come to and share the Good News about Jesu and his free grace! Are you ready to humble yourself and ask Him to help and lead you to the places where He can bring the harvest of fish, I mean people? Let’s go fishing!
